Avatar: What We Need to About Chin the Conqueror
Avatar: The Last Airbender has a vibrant and diverse history. It has a unique distinction of telling complex stories in a single episode without overwhelming its viewers. Therefore, every one of the episodes has a lot to explore, and that’s what makes Avatar so unique. The story of Chin the Conqueror encapsulates this phenomenon well. Although he had conquered the entire world at one point in time, his backstory was no longer than just a few minutes in the show. However, there is sufficient evidence that explains the larger story of Chin’s rise to power.
The Rise of Kiyoshi explores Chin’s story indirectly. It focuses talks about the bandit hordes called daofei, who harassed the surroundings of the Earth Kingdom. The nobles of the Earth Kingdom confined themselves in their fortresses to remain safe while the daofei were running wild in the absence of a strong Avatar. Jianzhu the Gravedigger, who was one of Avatar Kuruk’s companions and an Earthbender, played a crucial role in controlling these bandit hordes.
It is horrifying to what ends Jianzhu is willing to restore order and help Avatar reach a position of power. He is not bothered by any crimes that he might have to commit and believes that fulfilling his task is all that matters. He went on to poison the entire leadership of the Earth Kingdom. It was a terrifying decision since he took the lives of some of the most influential figures who were responsible for maintaining order. However, the earthbender himself is not immune to his recklessness and came to a violent end in an encounter with Kyoshi. However, the site of the duel had its significance.
The duel occurred in Qinchao village outside Yokoyo, where the Chin clan was in the majority. They were known for their xenophobia and valued law very highly. Although one can’t be sure, it seems that the Qinchao later became the Chin Village while Yokoyo became the Kyoshi Island. The village obsessed with law and order was ideal for someone like Chin the Conqueror to be born. The daofei must have become a serious problem that would have inspired the people of the Earth Kingdom to get behind a strong figure like Chin the Conqueror.
Unfortunately, the Avatar franchise itself has not covered the backstory of Chin the Conqueror so far. So, it is not possible to be sure of the events that must have happened. Hopefully, the franchise will cover history at some point so the fans will finally get to know the Chin the Conqueror’s story.
